STI Part A : Project Proposal
PROJECT PROPOSAL
This project I’ll be producing will be a 3D digital race-to-the-end game with vaporwave aesthetics in high speed and using Leap Motion as the controller. The digital game named _TRANSPORT.
The narrative part of this digital game will take place in a low-poly, vaporwave aesthetic, digital scene where player will be playing as a super vehicle, that can slowdown time, that transport data to the specific endpoints. A malware, an antagonist, will try to stop the player from reaching the end and corrupt the data the player is transporting. The player must race through obstacles by the malware before colliding head-on onto one of the obstacles.
The purpose of this digital game mainly for entertainment purposes. The target experience is causing the players to go over the edge and the thrills. It also promotes vaporwave aesthetics while sugarcoated by game. Probably it might create a community based on the game which is about the game mechanics, challenges and most importantly, vaporwave culture which is a win-win situation for the game survivability in the market and revival of vaporwave culture. It’s also to helps to promote different kind of controllers that’s not keyboard and mouse.
The project consists of vaporwave, digital landscape full of obstacles. The player as a super car that can slowdown time will be assigned to deliver data to the end. The player able to control the car left and right and as well as slowing time. The car will be very fast. The gameplay is hugely inspired by Race the Sun by Flippfly.
The target audience will be mostly targeting young adults and thrill hunters. Due to the difficulty, it’s not suitable for those who’s not familiar to games. Vaporwave is famous and trendy among the age group of 15 to 30+ years old individuals, and for those whose beyond the age group might see this artefact to be too abstract and hard to understand the concept of vaporwave.
The platforms will be utilized are Unity3D, Cinema4D, and perhaps Blender. I used Unity to publish the game because I’m familiar of using the Unity and able to explore the 3D side of Unity as I’ve done 2D in it. Cinema4D is a great tool to model 3D modellings which I’m familiar with. It’s a good time to further explore Cinema4D and utilize it mostly. For Blender, I will not use much of it but due to curiosity, I’ll try to understand how it works at least. The Leap Motion will be the controls for the digital game instead of keyboards and mouse. It helps to enhance the gameplay greatly.
The three main competitor will be OutDrive, Race the Sun and Asphalt. OutDrive, Fig.1, consist of vaporwave aesthetics hugely and the graphics are phenomenal but the gameplay wasn’t much. OutDrive is a competitor because _TRANSPORT also consist vaporwave aesthetics. Secondly, Race the Sun, Fig.2, is a great game because of its mechanics. The fast-paced plane racing through obstacles with the Sun and the music is great too. Race the Sun is a competitor because _TRANSPORT has the similar mechanics but probably better graphics. Lastly, Asphalt 8: Airborne, Fig.3, is made by Gameloft which is very famous for their works. Asphalt franchise has been in the market for very long time and people are very fond to it. Why is Asphalt a competitor with _TRANSPORT? It’s due to its arcade-racing genre.
